This CD contains the inscriptions on headstones and plaques in the Bulimba cemetery, Brisbane, as transcribed in 1980 by members of the Queensland Family History Society, then rechecked and updated in 1993 prior to indexing and publication on microfiche in 1995. This re-release on CD makes the resource much more accessible and allows searching of the text of the publication using Adobe Acrobat Reader. As well as the inscriptions, the file includes a map of the cemetery showing the position of each headstone and an index to all names referred to on the inscriptions. The entries cover approximately 10,000 people and the file represents over 400 pages of inscriptions, maps and index.
Bulimba Cemetery, also known as Balmoral Cemetery as it borders Balmoral Park, is one of the major early cemeteries in Brisbane, with the first burial in 1874 of George Wilson Pointon, a six year old boy who drowned in Norman Creek on 20th June that year. The material on this CD is a valuable resource, especially as time and vandalism have taken their toll on the headstones. As well as confirming or showing possible errors in the burial register, the MIs often show family relationships for 3 or 4 generations, including names of people not buried in the grave. Details can include parents, birth place and date, marriage information, titles and honours. Neighbouring plots can include related families.
This CD is an excellent resource for researching Queensland families.
